Nation sets its target for greenhouse gas emission: a reduction of 40%-45% by 2020
Xinhua News Agency, 26th Nov, Beijing:On 25th, Premier Wen Jiabao chaired a regular meeting of the State Council to discuss the tasks required to cope with climate change. They have set targets for tackling greenhouse gas emission as far as to 2020, and figured out the relative policies and action plans. According to the meeting, the ratio between per GDP unit and emission of carbon-dioxide by 2020 shall be reduced by 40%-45%, and the target shall be accommodated as a mandatory factor in the country’s long and short term planning for the national economy and social development. To facilitate the target implementation, the country will draft out relative methods for statistics, monitoring and appraisal.
