Energy saving and environmental conservation, a spotlight of the expansion of Hongqiao Airport

Website of Information Office of Shanghai Municipal Government, 11th March 2010: the headquarters of Shanghai Airport Construction has adhered always to the vision of sustainable development with energy saving, environmental conservation, greenness and humanization, in the course of planning, design and engineering for the expansion of Hongqiao Airport.
Driven by new notions of energy saving, water saving and material saving and an ambition of building a “green airport”, T2 Terminal Building has applied a dozen of energy-saving technologies such as natural lighting and natural ventilation, and eventually changing a “major energy consumer” into a “major energy saver”. Moreover, by using the technology of rainwater collection, they collected the waste water for re-use for cleaning and irrigation purposes, making it a “major water saver”. The other achievements include the usage of cool water tank and cool water supply systems, and new design for outside concrete walls of building, which helped saving operational costs and construction materials.
